El Latino celebrated its 26th anniversary this past May 21 in a reception that gathered staff, clients, public servants and friends of the newspaper, the hispanic publication with the biggest circulation in San Diego.
In the outdoors and with snacks from Dolphins restaurant in Chula Vista’s dock, over 200 guests enjoyed the music and good environment.
“Since it’s firs month of being established I have supported El Latino,” said Jesse Navarro, official of public relations for San Diego’s District Attorney Office.
“There was a big need to have a good newspaper that reached the Latino community, which happens to be a third of the population in the region, and they have done a great work,” he added.
On his behalf, National City’s mayor said, “Many newspapers come and go, but El Latino has stayed for its great commitment to the community.”
Fanny Miller, CEO and Editor in Chief of the newspaper, said in her speech that “the purpose of the publication is to help the community to help themselves as well as giving them information they need.”
Miller also pointed that El Latino reaches near a million readers monthly, and gave thanks specially to the clients.” We couldn’t be here without the support of our clients, they are the real believers of what we do. And with their support and that of our clients we will continue impacting lives on a weekly basis, there’s still much to do,” she emphasized.
During the celebration, Miller reveled the theme for the conference Celebrando 2014 that will be “Life is a carnaval.” Celebrando has been established as the largest conference for women in the country and it is organized by El Latino’s staff, this year a thousand attendees are expected.
“Celebrando is a unique event where we are welcoming Latinas in a friendly environment in our own language, we can celebrate our beauty and talk with confidence about health issues that are of interest to us,” expressed Miller.
The event will take place at the Hilton San Diego Bayfront on August 23, it will be an unforgettable experience of education, health and beauty completely in Spanish for the Latina of today.
